To work proactively and independently under the direction of the Site Manager, ensuring the school’s external grounds and outdoor areas are maintained to the highest standard.

This role requires extensive horticultural knowledge, including expertise in the care and cultivation of a wide variety of trees, shrubs, plants, and flowers. The Groundskeeper will ensure the grounds are safe, attractive, and supportive of learning throughout the changing seasons, contributing to a calm and welcoming environment for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

As a member of Northease Manor School staff, you are expected to perform any reasonable duties as may be assigned by the Site Manager or a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

Desirable

  • 2+ years’ experience in groundskeeping, horticulture, or a related field.

 

  • Relevant horticultural qualification (e.g. RHS, City & Guilds, NVQ).
  • Strong horticultural expertise, including plant care, seasonal maintenance, and biodiversity awareness.
  • Experience working in a school or SEND environment.
  • Proven ability to plan and carry out work independently to a high standard.
  • First Aid at Work Certificate.
  • Competence in operating and maintaining horticultural machinery safely.

 

  • Understanding of health & safety, risk assessments, and environmental practices.

 

  • Appropriate level of English, Maths, and ICT to complete site documentation.

 

  • Willingness to undertake further training and professional development.
